Impressively, as a second grader, Parker had not one but three original entries at the local and regional levels, and then went on to receive the Award of Merit for her photo titled “ Wishing Stones” at the state level.
Parker was invited to the Washington State PTA awards ceremony on May 6th at the SeaTac DoubleTree Hotel’s grand ballroom to receive her award.
Parker found her “wishing stones” at her grandparents’ vacation home on Waldron Island.
She explains, “When I visit my grandparents we love to explore at the beach ... the blue stones with the white line through them are called wishing stones, and they are always so pretty, so I used them to create a connected heart shape, and then took a picture of it.”
Parker went on to clarify that each stone is unique, but when you put them all together, even though they are all very different, they become something beautiful.
Parker added, “It is just like all different kinds of people coming together, even though they are different they are special, and together they create something really nice.”
