Woodinville Fire & Rescue received a special donation from students of Mack Elementary School.
Mrs. Laura Ribera’s first grade class and Ms. Shelly Riss’ second grade class visited Fire Station 31 last month and asked questions about what happened when a child is sick or injured.
When told that children often receive a stuffed animal to make them feel better, a class project was hatched. The children began working on a teddy bear and blanket project to donate to the fire department.
Each blanket had a personal hand-written cloth note sewn onto it from the student to whoever would receive the blanket.
The bears were then tied to the blanket roll with yarn and presented to Community Services Officer David Weed of Woodinville Fire & Rescue.
Weed said of the donation, “This is such a thoughtful and caring project that the students completed. The quality of the bears and blankets have greatly enhanced our Bears for Children program. The bears and blankets will be placed on department vehicles and given out to children during emergency responses.
