Amanda Foreman, age 13, recently completed her SCUBA lessons for PADI certification.
As part of the certification, she completed four open water dives in Puget Sound under the direction of Underwater Sports trainers in Seattle. She braved the murky cold waters at depths of nearly 60 feet and was tested on removing her mask, retrieval of breathing apparatus, emergency ascent, and a variety of other tasks to prove her diving competence.
Testing began when she was only 12 with the final certification dives taking place in May on the very day of her 13th birthday party celebration.
Amanda, her brother Will and her father Bill went on four tropical dives last month at a dive spot called Shark’s Point in Puerta Princessa, located on Palawan Island, Philippines.
Amanda is a 13-year Duvall resident and an honor roll student at Tolt Middle School.
