N.A.M.E.S. Foundation 5K/10K Run/Walk

  • Written by Joel Madrazo
The N.A.M.E.S. (Nicholas Aaron Madrazo Endearing Service) Foundation invites residents of Bothell, Woodinville, Kenmore, Kirkland and the neighboring cities to “support our troops” and participate in its 2nd annual 5K/10K Run/Walk fund-raising event on Sunday, Sept 9, 2012, which will be held in Bothell.

The 5K/10K event will start and end at Pop Keeney Stadium (18603 Bothell Way N.E., Bothell, WA 98011).

Check-in and registration for participants start at 7:15 am and the run/walk starts at 8 a.m.

The event courses are appropriate for all ages.

Funds raised during the 5K/10K event will go toward uniting injured soldiers with their families by helping cover the airfare cost for loved ones to visit their wounded soldier in a hospital or medical recovery center away from home.

Funds raised will ensure that injured soldiers are receiving the company that they deserve.

It was four years ago (Sept. 9, 2008) when my wife, Jenny, and I suddenly stopped hearing over the phone the voice of our son, U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Nicholas Aaron Madrazo from the mountains of Kapisa Province, Afghanistan, when his humvee hit an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and killed Nicholas, Capt. Jesse Melton (Maryland), Navy Corpsman Eickmann Strickland (Arlington, Wash.) and an Afghan interpreter.  These days, Jenny and I are grateful to hear the voice of our other son, Army Lt. Jared Madrazo, when he calls home from his deployment base in Afghanistan.

Before our son Nicholas left his home duty base in Okinawa for Afghanistan, he filmed a short video of himself and in it he urged us to not forget and to continue to support the soldiers who are serving in harm’s way in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The NAMES Foundation was formed to honor Nic’s life, his dedication to his fellow soldiers and his ultimate sacrifice, and to honor the sacrifice of all the other fallen soldiers.

The NAMES Foundation is an all-volunteer organization and a registered 501(c)(3) charitable foundation whose mission is to support our men and women currently serving in the United States military, their family and our veterans.

Come and join others on Sunday, Sept. 9, in supporting our troops by participating in the 2nd annual NAMES 5K/10K run/walk.
