It was no trick or treat. On Halloween night a Woodinville resident suffered minor burns while trying to put out a fire in an outbuilding adjacent to his home, Woodinville Fire and Rescue Community Services Officer David Week reported last week. Fire units from Woodinville, Bothell and Kirkland responded to a fire in the 12600 block of NE 173rd Place in Woodinville at about 9 p.m. and quickly extinguished the blaze, preventing it from spreading to a nearby garage and house, Weed said.
The resident of the property was transported to Evergreen Hospital, treated and released with minor burns he sustained in an attempt to extinguish the fire before fire department personnel arrived.
Said Weed: “Although it is understandable that homeowners want to extinguish a fire themselves, fires are extremely dangerous. The best plan is to evacuate everyone and let firefighters do their work to control a fire. This homeowner was lucky he only received minor injuries but it could have been much worse.”
King County fire investigators later discovered the cause came from equipment inside the outbuilding and ruled the fire accidental.
