|Woodinville Wine Country launches ‘Winter in Woodinville’|

With the holidays soon upon us, Woodinville Wine Country is set to kick off the season with “Winter in Woodinville,” a series of events celebrating the region’s wine bounty.
“It’s the launch of a new direction for Woodinville Wine Country,” says Jamie Peha, public relations consultant to the organization.
“The organization is dedicated to promoting Woodinville as a tourist destination and wanted to have a bigger platform in which to do accomplish this goal. In the past, it was event-based, usually centered around holidays. Now, the focus is year-round, with an emphasis on the seasons.” She adds, “The wineries involved are interested in having people coming to this area on a year-round basis to enjoy the whole wine experience, not only to taste wines, but to learn and participate in the wine process.”
Peha explains that Woodinville is the only wine region in proximity to nearly one million consumers that contains a great cross-sample of wineries from across the state.
She says, “It’s a concentrated wine tourism experience right here and provides visitors with a wonderful picture of what’s happening in Washington’s wine industry.”
On November 30, the public is invited to a Rockefeller-style tree lighting ceremony on the grounds of Chateau Ste. Michelle, where there will be hot chocolate and popcorn, along with members of the WHS choir singing holiday music to get everyone in the mood.
“This is a family-friendly celebration,” notes Peha. “It’s a way to get everyone involved — the entire community, including the Woodinville Chamber of Commerce, the City of Woodinville, wineries, residents and businesses.”
After the tree lighting, the festivities will continue indoors for the 21 and older crowd.
Forty wineries will be pouring special releases and serving up gourmet cheeses and holiday foods during “St. Nick’s at Night.”
Part of the proceeds from the ticketed event will go toward the Northshore YMCA.
Wineries will keep the holiday spirit alive over the weekend at the annual St. Nick’s Open House, two days of more wine tasting, food, music and holiday shopping at participating area wineries.
“Everyone who buys a ticket, either a weekend pass or a Sunday-only ticket, will get a keepsake wineglass, tote bag, booklet with directions and information about the wineries and a number of coupons for special offers,” adds Peha. “Once you purchase a ticket, you’ll have access to all the participating wineries and there is no added tasting fee.”
In an effort to give back, the Woodinville Wine Country will also be involved in “Fill the Barrel,” a charitable endeavor in partnership with the Northshore YMCA’s food drive. Empty barrels will be placed in front of wineries and various businesses in Woodinville for people to fill with nonperishable items.
“Once again, the idea is to involve community participation,” comments Peta. “It’s an opportunity for everyone to join in to support a good cause.”
