Jared Whitney achieved his Eagle Scout rank in November and was recently honored by a very grateful beneficiary, Cottage Lake Presbyterian Church.

The church has sponsored BSA Troop 573 for decades, and it meant a lot to Jared to give back to his troop’s host in such a meaningful way.

With the help of his father, Jared designed and managed the construction of twin five-foot light pillars to illuminate the entry to the church’s upper parking lot. The project added safety for drivers, aesthetic appeal and security for an otherwise dark stretch of road. The project was complex and took many months of preparation and planning and would not have been possible without the hardy souls of Troop 573 who accompanied Jared on his 50-mile bike ride fundraiser; the many cash donations from the troop, the church and from the community; the remarkably generous material contributions from Mutual Materials, Apex Supply, Cottage Electric, Crescent Lighting, Davey Tree Service and United Rentals; the volunteers from Troop 573 who labored long and hard through hot summer days of trenching, digging, mixing cement and mortar and Jared’s uncle, Rick Whitney for his professional masonry know-how, craftsmanship and tutelage.
