The City of Carnation concluded its year of centennial events with a solstice/centennial party on Dec. 21. The centennial kicked off last summer with the Carnation 4th of July Celebration. A town “Pioneer Picnic” and photo was held Aug. 5, followed by a barn dance on Sept. 30 at Carnation Farm. The next event was Tolt Centennial at Soundfalls Oct. 13. The city originally planned its grand finale with fireworks on New Year’s Eve but changed it for “various reasons,” said Mayor Lee Grumman. Incorporation was approved by King County on Dec. 30, 1912 and became official when it got to Olympia the next day (courtesy of city’s website).
