On January 22, 2013, the King County Council recognized nine deputies and emergency dispatchers, which included Woodinville deputies Clint Herman and Kelly Hardin, for their use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) or CPR.
Deputy Herman and Deputy Hardin responded to an overturned dump truck, where the driver had suffered an apparent heart attack and was trapped in the truck.
The officers were able to remove the driver from the truck and provide CPR to stabilize the victim until an ambulance made it to the scene of the accident.
Deputies and dispatchers volunteered to get additional training to operate the new equipment.
Over the past year, three lives were saved due to the equipment and training.
