Even after 60 years, Cub Scouting’s Pinewood Derby continues to deliver craftsmanship and excitement to American boys and their families.  Cub Scout Pack 552 of Bear Creek Elementary School recently held their annual pinewood event, which included 100 miniature handcrafted racers from Scouts and other family members.  Designs ran the gamut and included sleek race cars, tough tanks, super Seahawk mobiles, a hotrod 57 Chevy Nomad and a Volkswagen Bug. One car was even decorated as a wedge of Swiss cheese. The creators were recognized with 15 different design awards, including “Best of Show” which went to the Wii Game Controller-lookalike car of Austin Van Der Sluys.

After the races had ended and the dust had settled on the 40-foot track, trophies were awarded to the night’s fastest racers:

1st place – Chase Wygergangs

2nd place – Ian Pezzee

3rd place – Zach Shelton
