Obit GregsonThe Gregson family mourns the loss of John Gregson, who passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 4, 2013.

John Gregson was born on November 4, 1940, in Blackpool, England.

His family moved to the United States in 1952, settling in Santa Monica, Calif. He graduated from Santa Monica High School in 1958, where his classmates remember him as “the English guy” and was a member of the Pen Pushers Club.

He met Janell Marr at an ice skating rink in 1958 when she was 15 and he was 17. They wed in 1964 and spent their early married years in Santa Monica, Calif., where children John and Joanna were born. The family moved to Westlake Village, Calif., in 1973, where daughter Jill was born. The Gregson family moved to Woodinville, Wash., in 1978.

John worked as an aerospace engineer at Boeing but dabbled in many other ventures, including owning and operating Games Plus in Woodinville from 1987-1992, selling real estate, working as a tax preparer and creating recipes using a concoction he called meat mix.

Ever the Brit, he followed English soccer and was a season ticket holder for the original Seattle Sounders and the Sounders FC.

John and Janell have been privileged to surround themselves with a large network of friends over the years, including a group who became regulars at Barnaby’s in the 1980s and, more recently, friends who met monthly at the Three Lions Pub in Redmond.

He will be fondly remembered for his friendly, outgoing nature, his ever-present sense of humor and his amazing fish and chips.

John is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janell Marr Gregson; son, John Gregson and daughter-in-law, Alyssa Gregson; daughter, Joanna Gregson, son-in-law, Cory Soliday, and grandson Jack Soliday; and daughter, Jill Gregson Zawatski, son-in-law, Paul Zawatski, and grandson Julian Gregson Zawatski. He is also survived by his sister, Linda Streckewald, and his brother, William Gregson.

Friends and family are asked to raise a pint of English beer in John’s honor.
