|Spring is here!|
|Written by Derek Anderson|
Spring is here and so are the salmon and steelhead! June 1st is the classic opener to fishing for summer Chinook and summer steelhead on the Skykomish River. The fish forecast is excellent with over 6,000 summer Chinook due to return to the Skykomish in the next two months. As of right now, a good number of salmon and steelhead have returned to the hatchery even before the June 1st opener.
The salmon and steelhead are throughout the river system from the mouth up to the Wallace Hatchery as well as the steelhead hatchery at Reiter Ponds. Look for great bank fishing in the Monroe and Sultan area, as well as at the mouth of the Wallace River.
For a simple tackle set up, head to your local tackle store and they will take care of you with an inexpensive set-up that will get the job done and get you fishing. I would be glad to share some tips or answer any questions to help get you started. Feel free to email me at the above site.
Mother Nature has given us something very unique and special that is just a few minutes from Woodinville. The scenery is spectacular with snow covered mountains, beautiful green waters and abundance of eagles and most importantly fish. The salmon average six to 15 pounds and steelhead average eight to 12 pounds. Both fish serve up great from the BBQ, so be sure to get out there and spend a nice spring day casting your line in one of the most beautiful rivers Washington state has to offer.
