Susan Y. Ahn of Bothell has been named to the dean’s list at Western New England for the spring semester of 2013. Ahn is majoring in pre-pharmacy.

Zachary Amodt of Woodinville is among five students who are Patent Makers at Purdue University.The 5 Students Who web site,, recognizes outstanding Purdue students each month during the academic year. The May 2013 edition recognizes students who are working to patent their own discoveries made while at school.

The following area students graduated from Des Moines University May 25:
• Halley Anderson from Woodinville earned a D.O. degree. Anderson is the daughter of Stan and Marcie Bovetz and Lee and Janet Anderson of Woodinville.
• James Barger from Lynnwood earned a D.O. degree. Barger is the son of Jim and Karen Barger of Lynnwood.

Tanna Barnecut of Snohomish was the first place winner in the kitchens category of the 2012 Interior Design Society (IDS) Designer of the Year Awards on April 24, in Greensboro, N.C. Hailed as a prestigious honor by IDS designers, the Designer of the Year awards recognize outstanding achievement in residential interior design among Interior Design Society members.

On June 8 Boy Scout Tristen Wastell, a member of Troop 909 in Woodinville was honored at a special court of honor for achieving the Eagle Scout Award, Boy Scouting’s highest honor.  

To become an Eagle Scout, Tristen earned 28 merit badges and served his troop in a variety of leadership roles.  

He also completed a major community service project, redesigning the landscape at Woodinville Montessori School to put in a gravel path so students can safely walk from the main campus building to the new adjacent building at the North Creek campus.

A senior at The Overlake School, Tristen plans to enter the California Polytechnic State University next fall, where he will study engineering.  

Woodinville residents Morgan Elizabeth Rial, College of Arts and Sciences, and Luke Thomas Richardson, College of Arts and Sciences, were among over 3200 Baylor University students named to the dean’s academic honor list for the 2013 spring semester.

Matthew Berliner of Woodinville graduated from Rice University on May 11. Berliner received a master of music degree.

Lucas Eugene Besel of Woodinville, a senior majoring in biology, has been named to the Saint Martin’s University dean’s list for outstanding academic achievement for spring semester 2013.

Albert Chang of Mill Creek graduated from Rice University on May 11. Chang received a doctor of philosophy degree in electrical and computer engineering.

Alexander Edelsward, a resident of Woodinville, received a master of interactive technology in digital game development - art creation degree in May from Southern Methodist University.

Erik Enderlein of Mill Creek was recently named to the spring 2013 dean’s list at Beloit College. Enderlein is a sophomore.

Kayla Fennell, from Woodinville, graduated with a degree in communication disorders from Armstrong Atlantic State University on May 4.

On April 20th, Charlotte Shores was chosen as the 25th Mrs. Washington International. As Mrs. Washington International, Charlotte received an award package valued at over $27,000 in prizes and the opportunity to compete for Mrs. International in Chicago, Illinois this July.  Charlotte, a Woodinville High School graduate, resides in Bellingham and owns Sugar by Charlotte, a dessert catering business.  She graduated with a degree in culinary arts in 2011 from Bellingham Technical College. She also spends much of her time active with the YMCA’s Girls on the Run, while being a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), and Kiwanis board chairwoman and president-elect.  

First runner up was Lori Larsen of Kenmore.
