Following on the success of "The Curious Savage," Woodinville High School Theatre Company is excited to present the upcoming winter show, "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)."
The show runs January 30th, 31st and February 1st at 7 p.m., in the Woodinville High School Theater (19819 136th Ave NE, Woodinville, WA 98072).
"The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)" is a fast-paced and hilariously funny send-up of Shakespeare’s literary canon.
Woodinville High School’s drama department transforms itself into the Woodinville Reduced Shakespeare Company and attempts to perform all 37 of Shakespeare’s plays in under two hours.
Needless to say, the plays will need to be cut down significantly and performed at furious speeds – with side-splitting results.
A few of the highlights include: the entirety of "Romeo and Juliet" in just 12 minutes, "Titus Andronicus" performed as a cooking show and "Othello" reduced to a rap.
Forsooth and verily, thou should’st attend this rip-roaring debacle of Elizabethan literature.
The cast is composed of members of the Woodinville High School advanced acting and production class.
All of the actors are highly accomplished Shakespearian scholars, having all read the Sparknotes to 3 or 4 of Shakespeare’s plays.
They have extensive training in mugging for the audience, overacting, outrageously inappropriate characterizations, organic chemistry and stage combat with rubber chickens.
The cast includes Megan Egaas, Meghan Fay, Brandon Gertz, Alexis Grapp, Ben Griffin, Samy Habib, Natalie Knoles, Rachyl Levee, Amelia Marshall, Catherine McMillan, Aiken Muller, and Alexis Winarske — all of whom portray a variety of Shakespearian characters, often quite badly,
They are joined on the technical side by seniors Sydney Bodman (stage manager), Bryce Wimberly (master carpenter), Daniel Ochs (sound), Mack Ohnemus (lights), Maiah Swigert (costumes) and Hailey Fulton (house manager) — all of whom are far more skilled at their jobs than the actors.
Josh Butchart, Woodinville High School’s unfortunate choice for theatre teacher, brings tremendous credentials to his role as director of the show.
He has several day’s worth of directing experience, can recite one or two lines of Hamlet’s "to be or not to be" speech, owns his own tights and once saw almost an entire production of "Richard III" (he left at intermission).
His previous directing experience includes an underwater version of "Uncle Vanya, Waiting for Godot" performed entirely in mime and a production of "Oklahoma!" set in outer-space.
In his free time he enjoys model trains and writing ridiculous press releases that will undoubtedly alienate much of his potential audience and result in his being sacked from his job as theatre teacher.
Tickets are being sold through www.woodinvilledrama.org and at the door: $5 with an ASB card or for senior citizens, and $10 general admission
