The Woodinville Heritage Society has announced that the first in its DVD series of "Life in Woodinville" is now available for purchase. The program is a series of video-taped oral histories of Woodinville as seen through the eyes of senior citizens who lived the experiences they share. These histories are on pioneering families and institutions or neighborhoods that influenced the development of Woodinville into the community it is today.
The first DVD to be completed is "Life in Early Woodinville as told by the DeYoung Family. John and Ellen DeYoung moved from Kent to Woodinville in 1925. John DeYoung started out by buying the contents of the Teegarden Store and later built the Woodinville Mercantile Company which sold general merchandise, feed, fuel, and housed the Post Office. He also had a lettuce packing plant, a shingle mill, and the Woodinville Hardware-Plumbing store. In the DVD three of John and Ellen’s children (Lowell, Anna Frances and Al) relive their early years growing up in Woodinville. They describe how the whole family supported the various family businesses and what it was like growing up before today’s electronic wonders. The panel discussion is supplemented by many wonderful stories and pictures of Woodinville from the 1920s to today. The DVD was funded by the Woodinville Heritage Society and a grant from King County 4Culture (King County Lodging Tax Revenues). Production was provided by Christy Diemond of Uninformed Consent.
The DVD is available to be purchased for $7 (or $9 if mailed) by contacting the Woodinville Heritage Society at info@woodinvilleheritage.org or PO Box 216, Woodinville, Washington 98072.
