County awards funds to curb youth violence
King County Executive Gary Locke and County Councilmembers Jane Hague and Larry Gossett announced awards to 15 projects aimed at involving local communities in the fight against youth crime and violence.
The "Safe Community/Youth Partnership" awards target middle school to high school youth, aged 11-18.
Receiving a $75,000 award for the Northshore area was Partnerships for Youth and Safe Communities, a 3-year project serving Shoreline, Northshore, north King County, and the cities of Shoreline and Lake Forest Park.
The project will establish community-based youth advisory committees to work in partnership with agencies and cities in addressing the needs of young people. It will implement opportunities for youth to contribute to the community through public service.
Lead agency for the project will be Northshore/Shoreline Community Health and Safety Network.
