Early results in state, county, local races

candidates With 100 percent of the polls and 50 percent of the absentee ballots in, early results of the general election Nov. 7 show new blood in several local races and defeat for several initiatives.
    Of the 160,000 absentee ballots sent out, King County has received 80,000. The next set of totals will be available Monday, Nov. 13 at 4 p.m.
    The following are tallies from races around the area (uncontested races not included):

State Ballot Measures

    Initiative 640 (Fishing Regulations): Yes 131,196 (39.81 percent), No 198,348 (60.19 percent).
    Initiative 651 (Indian Gambling): Yes 79,516 (23.74 percent), No 255,484 (76.26 percent).
    Referendum 48 (Property Rights): Approve 101,763 (30.95 percent), Reject 227,069 (69.05 percent).
    Referendum 45 (Fish and Game Commission): Yes 169,938 (52.12 percent), No 156,111 (47.88 percent).
    Resolution 8210 (Chief Justice Selection; Court Reduction): Yes 179,771 (58.71 percent), No 126,415 (41.29 percent).

King County

    Proposition 1 (AFIS Levy): Yes 216,836 (72.65 percent), No 81,612 (27.35 percent).
    Assessor: Scott Noble (D) 202,098 (67.51 percent), Jerry Guite (R) 97,269 (32.49 percent).

Superior Court

    Position 26: Jeanette Burrage 73,168 (34.18 percent), Doug North 43,151 (20.16 percent), Mary Ellen Hudgins 36,950 (17.26 percent), Tim Bradbury 30,818 (14.39 percent), Jeff Beaver 30,005 (14.02 percent).
    Position 37: Nicole MacInnes 76,222 (38.63 percent), Theresa Gibbons 44,198 (22.40 percent), Will Patton 29,066 (14.73 percent), Peter Camp 23,023 (11.67 percent), Donald Gulliford 16,527 (8.38 percent), Alexander Wirt 8,286 (4.20 percent).

Woodinville City Council

    Position 2: Walter Backstrom 845 (51.59 percent), Barbara Solberg 793 (48.41 percent).
    Position 4: Scott Hageman 880 (53.63 percent), Bob Dixon 761 (46.37 percent).
    Position 6: Carol Bogue 833 (51.67 percent), Marsha Engel 779 (48.33 percent).

Woodinville Fire and Life Safety District

    Position 2: David Callon 3,669 (63.84 percent), R.E. "Bob" Wright 2,078 (36.16 percent).
    Position 4: Donald Leggett 3,222 (63.76 percent), Kevin Coughlin 1,831 (36.24 percent).

Woodinville Water District

    Position 2: Gail Harrell 3,151 (57.20 percent), Stephen Douglas 2,358 (42.80 percent).

Northshore School District

    Position 2: Sue Paro 8,655 (54.93 percent), Rich Baldwin 7,099 (45.06 percent).
    Position 3: B-Z Sundstrom Davis 7,875 (56.09 percent), Paul Emerson 6,164 (43.9 percent.

Bothell City Council

    Position 2: Jeanne Edwards 1,515 (67.63 percent), J.P. Roslan 725 (32.37 percent).
    Position 4: Terry Olsen 1,599, Paul Cowles (Write-in total not available).
    Position 6: Wendy Brady 1,383 (56.96 percent), Jim Phillips 1,045 (43.04 percent).

Redmond City Council

    Mayor: Rosemarie Ives 4,631 (63.46 percent), Mark Denton 2,667 (36.54 percent).
    Position 3: Richard Grubb 4,458 (75.88 percent), Robert Counsell 1,417 (24.12 percent).
    Position 5: Richard Cole 3,440 (56.97 percent), Robert DeWolf 2,598 (43.03 percent).
   

Carnation City Council

    Position 1: David Hunter 255 (68 percent), Michael Mace 120 (32 percent).

Duvall City Council

    Position 4: Ernie Zumwalt 303 (100 percent), Matthew Waddington (Write-in total not available).
    Proposition 1 (Police Services): Yes 333 (62.24 percent), No 202 (37.76 percent).

Riverview School District

    Position 3: Carol Van Noy 1,294 (61.74 percent), MaryEllen Ward 802 (38.26 percent).
    Position 5: Laura Ritter 1,371 (62.83 percent), Robert Smallwood Jr. 811 (37.17 percent).

Fire District 45

    Position 3: Bruce Smith 755 (69.65 percent), Daryl Sherfey 329 (30.35 percent).

Fire District 10

    Position 3: Jeff Griffin 4,190 (52.66 percent), Vaughn (Jim) Merritt 3,767 (47.34 percent).
    Position 4: Rick Gaines 5,331 (69.23 percent), Kenneth Canady 2,369 (30.77 percent).

Snohomish County

    These numbers represent the election night results and about 8,000 absentee ballots. Snohomish County's Auditor's Office sent out 48,800 absentee ballots and as of Nov. 9 had 18,000 left to process, in addition to any they received on Nov. 9. Their next count will be Nov. 14, and their final count on Nov. 21.

    County Executive: Bob Drewel (D) 57,631 (55.96 percent), Douglas Smith (R) 45,214 (43.91 percent).
    County Assessor: Gail S. Rauch (D) 55,655 (55.01 percent), Steve Reid (R) 45,442 (44.92 percent).
    County Auditor: Bob Terwilliger (D) 58,690 (58.02 percent), David Freese (R) 42,394 (41.91 percent).
    County Clerk: Pam Daniels (D) 53,580 (54.19 percent), Brenda Brown (R) 45,209 (45.71 percent).
