military news Navy Lt. Cmdr. Phillip R. Allison, son-in-law of Roy A. and Maxine L. Rogers of Bothell, recently received nomination as a runner-up for the Frank M. Adams Junior Officer Leadership Award while assigned to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

   Navy Lt. Stephen A. Schreiber, son-in-law of Daniel and Carol Mauch of Bothell, also has returned from a six-month deployment aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, in support of the U.N. forces in Bosnia. Schreiber joined the Navy in May 1986.

   Marine 2nd Lt. Derek J. O'Loughlin, son of Daniel J. and Judith A. O'Loughlin of Mill Creek, recently graduated from the Basic School at Marine Corps Combat Development Command in Quantico, Virginia, where he was prepared for assignment to the Fleet Marine Force. He joined the Marine Corps in October 1994.

   Marine Lance Cpl. Denny K. Kruckenberg, a 1993 graduate of Chrysalis School of Bothell, recently reported for duty with Marine Wing Support Squadron 372, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station, Camp Pendleton, California. He joined the Marine Corps in December 1993.

   Marine Lance Cpl. Francisco J. Luna, son of Vicky and Jaime Luna of Mill Creek, was a member of the force providing cover for the final withdrawal of U.N. troops in Somalia during Operation United Shield. For over two years, these U.N. forces protected humanitarian relief efforts in Somalia. Luna serves aboard the San Diego-based amphibious warfare ship USS Fort Fisher as part of the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit.

   Marine Lance Cpl. Mike L. Albers, son of Robert J. and Judy A. Albers of Bothell, recently participated in two weeks active duty training for reservists with Marine Wing Support Squadron 473, Oak Harbor. He joined the Marine Corps in December 1993.

   Marine Cpl. Dennis W. LaValle, son of Dennis P. LaValle of Snohomish, recently was promoted to his rank while serving with Combat Service Support Group One, 1st Force Service Support Group, Twentynine Palms, California. LaValle graduated from Woodinville High School in 1993 and joined the Marine Corps in August of that year.

   Sgt. Michael J. Behrendsen of Woodinville, an Army Reserve citizen-soldier, has been called up to serve a 179-day tour as part of a United Nations peacekeeping force in Haiti. He serves with the 6th Battalion/158th Aviation Regiment's A Company, located at Paine Field in Everett.

   Army Reserve Sgt. Aaron Thomason is serving a six-month tour as part of a United Nations peacekeeping force in Haiti. He is a soldier with the 6th Battalion/158th Aviation Regiment's headquarters and A Company, located at Paine Field in Everett.

   Navy Chief Petty Officer James D. Aston, son of Ursula B. Skoug of Bothell, has departed on a six-month overseas deployment aboard the guided missile destroyer USS Curtis Wilbur as part of the Middle East Force. Aston's ship will help enforce the no-fly zone over Southern Iraq and the ongoing maritime interception operations in the area.

   Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class James F. Schuler, son of James M. and Rae L. Schuler of Bothell, has returned from a six-month deployment aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, which most recently participated in the NATO air strikes in support of United Nations operations in Bosnia. He joined the Navy in December 1991.

   Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Tracy P. Nash, son-in-law of Lynn C. and Julie K. Gelo of Bothell, recently reenlisted for two years while serving with Attack Squadron 128, Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Oak Harbor, Washington. He joined the Navy in Sept. 1991.

   Marine Pfc. Christian D. Borda, son of Ervin A. and Laura E. Borda of Woodinville, recently completed the Basic Aviation Structural Mechanic Course. The 1994 graduate of Woodinville High School joined the Marine Corps in January 1995.

   Jeffrey A. Mader, son of Robert L. Mader of Bothell, has transferred from the United States Army Reserve to the Active Army. Mader has enlisted as a parachute rigger and will leave for Advanced Individual (skill) Training at Fort Benning, Georgia, on November 7, 1995.

   Navy Fireman Nathaniel J. Jones, son of Gloria S. Jones of Bothell and Mike D. Jones of Woodinville, graduated from the Gas Turbine Systems Technician Mechanical Course at Navy Service School Command in Great Lakes, Illinois. He is a 1994 graduate of Bothell High School.

   Navy Seaman Eric W. McDonald, son of John W. and Leslie P. McDonald of Woodinville, recently participated in a military exercise in the Republic of Korea while assigned to the command ship USS Blue Ridge. The 1990 graduate of Woodinville High School joined the Navy in January 1993.

   Navy Seaman Stephen S. Howard, son of James E. Howard of Woodinville, is serving a six-month overseas deployment to the Persian Gulf aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Chancellorsville. The 1991 graduate of Redmond High School joined the Navy in July 1991.

   Navy Seaman Recruit Adam A. Witt, son of Diana K. Osburn of Bothell, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois. He graduated from Inglemoor High School in 1995.

   Seaman Recruit Robert C. Simpson, son of Diane and Robert Simpson of Woodinville, graduated Oct. 20 from the Naval Recruit Center in Great Lakes, Illinois. He will be stationed in Great Lakes while attending mechanics school. Simpson graduated from Woodinville High School in 1995.

   Trena M. Sherbon, daughter of Clifford and Diana Sherbon of Woodinville, recently enlisted in the Air Force. Upon successfully completing the Air Force's 6-week basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, near San Antonio, Texas, she is scheduled to receive technical training in the Guaranteed General Aptitude Area career field.

   Navy Airman Rodney S. Thornton, son of Sara Barmon of Bothell, has returned to Oak Harbor, WA, after a six-month overseas deployment with Attack Squadron 95 embarked aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln. While on deployment, Thornton helped enforce the international no-fly zone over Southern Iraq.
