Ride winter ferries safely
Winter weather doesn't effect the ferries very much: They don't get stuck in snow and you won't find black ice on the waters of Puget Sound.
But ferry traffic can be slowed by the weather, and that may have an impact on the ferries.
The Washington State Ferry system recommends ferry riders follow these precautions in cold weather:
Listen to radio and television traffic reports, to find out if ferries are affected by fog, snow or icy streets.
Call the ferry information line at 1-800-84-FERRY if you have any concerns.
Wear appropriate shoes. Walkways can be very slippery.
Use extra caution when driving past ferry personnel or other passengers.
