Northshore Y opens new addition
The Northshore YMCA has opened a new 5,000-square-foot addition to their current facility in the Quadrant Business Park in Bothell.
An open house for the new expansion is scheduled for Dec.14, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Northshore YMCA.
The addition includes a new, expanded fitness area, featuring selectorized weight equipment and cardiovascular equipment including treadmills, exercise bikes, rowers, Nordic Tracks and stair machines.
This new area also includes a fitness testing office and the Y's new "Get Fit" program area for those just getting back into exercise. The second phase of the project will be a youth adventure area, which will be opening in December.
This new area will be designed for elementary-age children to explore, climb and play. It will feature a structure with tunnels, tubes, slides, a maze, tightrope walk, and a mountain climb.
The room will also include a lateral climbing wall, which will allow the kids to climb around the room using rock hand holds on the wall. A similar structure is currently at the Science Center in Seattle.
In addition, the new room will have an open mat area with climbing shapes and blocks and will be the home of the YMCA "Kids Gym" classes. The room will be designed for indoor active play that will support the YMCA's youth fitness goal in a fun way. For more information, call 485-9797.
