WHS Winterfest to help homeless
Jill Gregson, Woodinville High School student body vice president, has announced the school's annual "Winterfest," an event in which the school reaches out to help the community.
This week, each student is being asked to give one dollar to the "Buck a Head" drive, with proceeds benefiting the Northshore Multi-Service Center. A pancake breakfast is also planned.
For the community, the most visible event of Winterfest is the annual "Stockmarket Sleepout."
In an effort to call attention to the plight of the homeless, the A.S.B. officers and some class officers will assume the role of those without homes by sleeping outside Stockmarket the nights of Dec. 18 and 19.
Then, the following morning, the group will go to school without showers, a change of clothes or a good, warm night's sleep, just as the homeless do.
To help the homeless, the community is asked to bring donations of warm blankets and clothing to the group outside the grocery store, which is located in Woodinville Towne Centre. Monetary donations are also welcome. For information, call 489-6726.
