Celebrations usher in the New Year

    New Year's celebrations at the Space Needle include: "Dancing in the Sky" on the observation deck; big band sounds on the restaurant level; flashback to the 70s on the skyline level; and grooving to the oldies and live band entertainment outdoors at the amphitheater. The outdoor party is free and tickets to the others can be purchased through Ticketmaster, 292-ARTS.

   The Seattle Symphony Associates will host a New Year's Eve celebration Dec. 31 beginning with cocktails at 6 p.m. at the Four Seasons Olympic Hotel. A "New Year's Eve in Old Vienna" concert at the Opera House will follow with a champagne toast and Dilettante chocolate-covered strawberries during intermission. Dining, dancing, Ste. Michelle wine and champagne will begin at 10:20 p.m. at the Four Seasons. Cost is $200 per person. 443-4740.

   The Everett Symphony presents "The Night Before New Year's Eve" Dec. 30. The musical stroll through 50 years of popular music will also feature champagne, hors d'oeuvres, homemade cookies, and coffee beginning at 6:30 p.m. with the concert at 8 p.m. at the Everett Performing Arts Center.    A New Year's Eve celebration cruise and dinner will be held aboard the Weststar Dec. 31 from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Passengers will enjoy a four course dinner, entertainment, a fireworks display, party favors, and a complimentary glass of champagne or sparkling cider.    Pierce County Arts Commission will hold its First Night New Year's celebration of performing and visual arts, a non-alcohol, family-oriented festival lasting 13 hours. Admission buttons are $10 or $12 at First Night. Chilren under 12 are free. (206) 591-7205.
