Spirit teams post wins in holiday basketball tourneys

basketball tourneys The Woodinville Spirit 9th grade girls team placed 2nd in the Lake Washington Force Holiday Basketball Tournament Dec 29-30. Woodinville Spirit 7th grade girls took 5th place.

Highlights of the 9th grade Spirit games:
   Game 1: Led by Megan Johnson's 10 points, Beth Grove's 13 rebounds, and Meredith Konsmo's 8 steals, Spirit wins the opening game of the tourney against Lake Washington Force 37-32.
   Game 2: Beth Grove grabbed 11 rebounds and scored 11 points as Spirit beat Snohomish 35-28.
   Game 3: Jessica Morris dishes out 5 assists and Lindsay Brown, Courtney Funsinn, and Meredith Konsmo all score in double figures as Spirit destroys The Force 8th grade team 62-25.
   Championship Game: After trailing by 18 at half, Spirit climbed back to within 6 points of Inglemoor but ran out of gas, losing 52-41. Courtney Funsinn and Meredith Konsmo scored 11 and 10 respectively for Spirit.
   Spirit is now 13-3 on the season.

Seventh Grade tournament highlights:
   Game 1: Kari Morris hit a 3-point shot with 14 seconds left in regulation time to send the game into overtime against Issaquah. Issaquah ends up winning the game in OT, 28-26.
   Game 2: Lisa Acomb and Hanna Langsev lead the way with 12 points each as Spirit demolishes Kings 53-28. Karen Griego grabbed 9 rebounds for Spirit.
   Game 3: Spirit comes back from a 9-point deficit led by Lisa Acomb's 12 points and 11 rebounds to beat Lynden 40-33. Caitlin Faulkner also had 10 rebounds.
   Game 4: Becca Meredith hit 2 free throws with just 4 seconds left to ice the game for Spirit against Edmonds Energy 34-31. Meredith also led the team in scoring with 14 and Tina Brennan scored 11 while grabbing 10 rebounds.
   Spirit is now 10-3 on the season with a league-leading 5-0 record in the very competitive Puget Sound Traveling League.
