Super Bowl party When the Food Committee at Lakeview Gardens Convalescent Center in Kirkland wanted to have a Super Bowl party for the residents at the center, they planned a typical football game menu for lunch and invited the Inglemoor High School cheer squad to lead cheers for the Cowboys and the Steelers, depending on each resident's personal choice.
The request from Lakeview worked right into the plans of the Viking squad. Each month, the group performs a community service, and the visit to the center turned out to be fun for both the residents and the girls.
The squad, complete with mascots, came to whip up excitement for the Sunday game. So, while hot dogs, chili, and corn on the cob were enjoyed by the residents, the girls enthusiastically led the cheers. Joyce Lyons, advisor for the squad, thought the pre-Super Bowl party worked out wonderfully.
Even the team colors were perfect: both Inglemoor and the Steelers wear black and gold. The Cowboy fans were not left out: some of the girls wore jeans.
Members of the Viking cheer squad are: Wendy Rodgers, Sundi Keller, Stephanie Tran, Lanette Memmel, Beth Colwell, Kathryn Ellis, Laura Clawson, Danielle Wheeler, Stacy Roh, and Jessica Stoen. Mascots are Katie Obukowicz and K. C. Elsasser.
