Northshore Y begins 'Partners with Youth' campaign

funding campaign Community volunteers will gather Jan. 31 at the Northshore Senior Center to launch the Northshore YMCA's 1996 funding campaign, "Partners with Youth."
Volunteers are encouraged to wear Mariner baseball caps and T-shirts in keeping with the Northshore campaign theme, "My, Oh, My...Support Your Y." Keynote speaker for the dinner event is Dr. Karen Forys, Superintendent of Northshore Schools.
"Our community goal is $54,700," said campaign chair Judy Burdell, 1st Interstate Bank manager in Bothell. The community phase of the campaign relies on over 120 volunteers fanning out into Northshore.
To expand on the baseball theme, the coaching sessions Jan. 22-24 for volunteers were labeled "spring training," while the wind-up dinner March 6 is touted as the "World Series."
A similar business/corporate campaign is concluding now under the chairmanship of Bob Russell, whose goal was $40,800.
Proceeds from the $95,500 total will help provide child care, family programs, and financial assistance for youth and families who cannot afford the full cost of YMCA camps, according to general chairman Walt Yeager. Funds will also help expand the growing YMCA youth and family programs.
The facility serves more than 15,000 residents in such activities as health and fitness, child care, teen development, swim lessons, sports, and youth camps, said Peter Morris, director of the Northshore YMCA.
