Fire crews respond to Haz Mat incident
Woodinville and Bothell firefighters were among those responding to a malfunction of a commercial laser welding machine that caused a release of hazardous fumes at the Allied Signal Company in Redmond Feb. 8 at 8 a.m.
The decomposing material was identified as "Delrin," an insulation block which had overheated and melted.
The machine, about 12 feet by 6 feet, could not be removed from the building. Dry ice was used to cool down the material and stop the reaction without causing further damage. No injuries were reported.
