Girls CAN...succeed in math and science careers
"Girls CAN...succeed in math and science careers" is the focus of the annual conference entitled "Expanding Your Horizons," for junior high and middle school girls, scheduled for March 23 at Bellevue Community College.
Girls in grades 6 through 8 will have the opportunity to participate in workshops led by local women engaged in math/science related professions, from environmental engineering and aeronautics to chemistry, medicine, pharmacy, and software engineering.
Conference goals are to increase young women's interest in mathematics and science, providing them with an opportunity to meet women working in non-traditional fields while learning about careers that use science and math.
The conference runs from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with 53 workshops from which students can choose. A concurrent adult program,"The Future is Now," will be held at the campus and is open to all adults.
Cost per participant for both conferences is $9. Space is limited and applications should be postmarked no later than March 8. Check your local library or call 621-0758 for registration forms.
