An asphalt shoulder was added to the west side of Avondale Road last week, disrupting traffic between NE 159th Street and the Woodinville Library. The shoulder will serve as a pedestrian walkway and is expected to be completed within the next few weeks.

Drivers along Avondale Road NE have probably been caught in a few backups recently due to the construction of a pedestrian walkway on the west side of the road. The walkway will be completed within the next two weeks, weather permitting, said project manager Lon Penton.
The new section begins at NE 159th Street and will then link up with the already completed walkway which runs from the Woodinville Library to Woodinville-Duvall Road. It will have a raised curb and raised walkway to help separate the pedestrians from the traffic.
Commuters are probably wondering about the other project on Avondale, which widened the road to five lanes but still has the new lanes closed. Those lanes should be opening up in a few weeks and are currently closed to allow parking for construction vehicles while streetlights, rockery, and sidewalks are installed.
