NE 124th Street improvement
The City of Kirkland opened bids on Friday, March 22, for the construction of roadway improvements to NE 124th Street, east of I-405 in the Totem Lake area. These improvements will widen the existing three-lane section of roadway to five lanes between 124th Avenue NE and 132nd Avenue NE (Slater Road).
The apparent low bid was submitted by J.E. Work, Inc., of Redmond for the amount of $1,275,000.
This section of roadway has been a long-standing bottle neck to traffic travelling west wishing to access the freeway or the commercial shopping area. Improvements will include the addition of two driving lanes, sidewalks, landscaping, and a new traffic signal located at 129th Lane NE.
Plans are underway by King County to extend these improvements eastward from Slater Road to SR-202 (Woodinville-Redmond Road) in 1997.
