Train as a master recycler

   Residents can take advantage of a free training program held by the King County Solid Waste Division to educate themselves on waste reduction, recycling, and composting. The Master Recycler Composter program offers classroom training, field demonstrations, and hands-on activities. Training begins May 14 in Bellevue for four weeks. The application deadline is Apr. 19. Arboretum tours mark Arbor Day

   The Washington Park Arboretum will celebrate Arbor Day with public "Tree Tours" at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. April 12 and 13. The free tours will depart from the Graham Visitors' Center, 2300 Arboretum Drive E., and will last approximately 1 1/2 hours. Visitors are encouraged to dress for the weather. Disaster assistance deadline

   April 11 is the deadline for state residents affected by the winter floods and windstorms to register for most disaster assistance programs. Call toll-free, 1-800-462-9029.

Metro seeks community board members

   Bus riders, and would-be riders, can help design a new bus network that better meets their needs. Metro Transit is looking for citizens to serve on a sounding board that will help reshape public transit in north King County. Women's Show returns

   Fashion shows, makeovers, and aerobic demos will be part of the NW Women's Show April 12-14 at the Washingtaon State Convention Center. Show hours are 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily. Tickets are $8 at the door, or $7 when bought in advance at any Bartell Drugs. Call 882-2979.

Biological inventory workshop

   There are just 6 openings left for the biological inventory workshop sponsored by the Water Tenders and the Bear Creek Waterways 2000 Team April 27 beginning at 9 a.m. The workshop will train Bear Creek and Patterson Creek residents how to use the inventory. Sheep shearing event

   The Bellevue Parks and Community Services Department invites everyone to them for a Wild-n-Wooly Sheep Shearing event at Kelsey Creek Farm April 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Featured will be a wide variety of displays and children's activities. For more information, call 455-6885.

Fundraiser for EquiFriends

   Kick off the trail-riding season with the seventh annual "Slicker 'N Nicker" Ride-A-Thon April 20, followed by a complimentary barbecue.
