School zone speeders targeted
The Washington Traffic Safety Commission lists cars as the biggest killer of school-age children, who are even in greater danger when walking near their school.
Now, parents and other school zone speeders should think twice before putting the pedal to the metal. The price of the speeding ticket just doubled, and that penalty cannot be waived, reduced, or suspended.
The new law approved by the Legislature and Governor doubles the fine for speeding in school zones and will now cost the speeder $132.
The speed limit near schools is 20 miles per hour when children are present. The length of the school zone area is usually about 600 feet.
