Seattle Opera's final production of the season is a triumph of the art, melding the classic elements of love, betrayal, and patriotism in a stirring tale of tragedy. Andrea Chénier is the powerful story of a poet caught in the French Revolution and the Terror that followed.
Ben Heppner is brilliant as Chénier, a true son of the Revolution falsely accused by the revolutionary leader Gérard (Richard Paul Fink).
Both Chénier and Gérard love the same woman, Maddalena di Coigny (Diana Soviero), creating a triangle that becomes the cause of Gérard's damning accusations.
The passion of Andrea Chénier and the exquisite performances by both Heppner and Fink are coupled with a stirring score by Umberto Giordano and a fantastic set design from Michel Beaulac.
Tickets for Andrea Chénier can be purchased at the Seattle Opera Ticket Office or by calling 389-7676. Tickets for La Traviata, playing July 24-Aug. 10, are available beginning June 10.
