Bothell resident Jane Day received a big surprise on her last day of work at Evergreen Hospital. After 21 years as a nurse there, when Jane arrived April 23 for her last shift in the emergency room, her duties were covered by another nurse so she could enjoy a day-long open house in her honor.
"Pinky," so-called because of her red hair and propensity for blushing, spent the day visiting with past and present hospital workers while they signed a photo montage that dated back to the mid-'70s. Much to Day's delight, her daughter and grandchildren also came to surprise her.
After spending 21 active years in the E.R., Day has no plans to take it easy. She, her daughter and son-in-law, and grandchildren are anxiously awaiting the completion of a log house on the Hood Canal. The new home, situated on two acres, is expected to be complete by mid-September. In the meantime, Day will be living in Port Orchard.
