Earlier this month, 600 math teams from across the state, representing grades 5-8, competed in the state math championships in Blaine. Out of the 600 teams, Northshore Junior High's 7th grade team placed fourth; the 8th grade team placed third.
Members of the 7th grade team included Erin MacKintosh, Sean Kelly, Jeremy Wilson, Kenneth Walden, Gary Stute, Joe Zieman, Chris Beal, and Tim Wright.
The 8th grade team was represented by Sean Skelly, Nat Koons, Colin Connolly, Irin Allen, Jenni Ellestad, Meena Krishman, Jenny Myoung, and Mike Kelly.
In addition to the team honors, five Northshore Junior High students placed in the top 15 of all competitors. Those selected for their individual accomplishments were Erin MacKintosh, Sean Kelly, Colin Connolly, Nat Koons, and Sean Skelly.
In March, the four top mathletes from Northshore competed in Wenatchee at the Washington State Math Counts championship. The team placed second with Nat Koons placing second individually.
Nat, along with the other three top mathletes from the Math Counts competition, will represent Washington at at the National Championships to be held in May in Washington, D.C.
