News from the Metro King County Council
by Louise Miller, Vice Chair, District 3 Representative
The Metropolitan King County Council's 13 districts were recently redrawn to match population shifts over the last five years.
District 3, the district I represent, will continue to include Woodinville, Duvall, and the surrounding areas. However, the district will no longer include Bothell. That city was moved to the Shoreline-based 1st District.
Redmond also now is completely within the confines of the 3rd District. In the past, only a small portion of Redmond residents lived in the 3rd District. Under the county charter, a bipartisan King County Districting Committee is required to redraw Council district boundaries every five years.
The districting committee presented the new Council district boundaries on April 15, with changes taking effect immediately. The goal was for each member to represent 124,123 residents.
As I mentioned above, the bipartisan King County Districting Committee is required to redraw council district boundaries every five years. However, the County Council recently approved an ordinance calling for a change in the County Charter. If approved by voters in November, the county would be required to redraw district boundaries every 10 years.
