Joe and Connie Ravenel of Woodinville, son and home school teacher respectively, recently returned from a two-week trip to Disney World, where they were "treated like kings and queens," according to Mrs. Ravenel.
Joe Ravenel won this royal treatment for writing a 300-word summary, a 2,000-word detective story, and a travel brochure about Cairo, Egypt. Joe was one of thirteen World Champion Winners in Delta's "World Adventure Challenge with Carmen Sandiego" who received an all-expenses paid trip for three to Disney World, where he appeared in a parade, attended dinners and receptions, and met other winners from around the world. He also received a $1,000 savings bond for college tuition.
"It's a really neat thing for the kids to do," Mrs. Ravenel said. The contest required research, geography, and artistic skills. Joe chose to write about Cairo after seeing a Seattle Times article about renting the Great Pyramid for a night. His knowledge and creative talent shone out from among 5,000 applications from around the world.
