Post office announces change
Changes in mail collection procedures for parcels and packages weighing 16 ounces or more are now in effect.
Domestic mailpieces weighing 16 ounces or more using postage stamps must be presented to a postal retail person in order to enter the mailstream. Any such parcels put in mail collection boxes, parcel chutes, etc., are subject to being returned to sender.
Domestic mailpieces with metered postage are exempt from the new procedures.
All international or military APO/FPO mail weighing 16 ounces or more must also be brought to a postal retail unit where a special customs declaration form will be completed.
These changes do not apply to the Postal Service's Express Mail service.
Customers should direct questions to their local post office.
