Bravo! Club brings opera to 'youngsters'
In the opera world, young has traditionally meant anyone under 50. However, a new offshoot of the Seattle Opera is attempting to attract a new audience by hosting parties, wine tastings, and giving discounts on opera tickets.
The Bravo! Club targets people 20 to 40 years old in an effort to open the eyes and ears of a new generation to the wonders of opera. Only a month-and-a-half old, Bravo! has already gained 120 members. Most became aware of the club through word of mouth and at social events such as the Turandot wine-tasting preview held Sept. 29 at Woodinville's Columbia Winery. The atmosphere at these events is light and friendly. They remind music lovers that opera is a joyful experience for any age.
Columbia, along with Bravo!'s two other main sponsors, Pyramid Breweries and Williams, Kastner & Gibbs LLP law firm, provide locations and funding for the club's social events.
Membership in the club is $45 a year and includes half-price tickets, free admission to special intermission receptions, and invitations to pre- and post-performance parties. For more information on Bravo!, contact Julie Gordon at 389-7680, extension 1214.
