Opening night for Seattle Opera's production of Puccini's Turandot will be Oct. 19. In this exotic opera, Prince Calaf, keeping his true identity a secret from his enemies, is entranced by Princess Turandot. To win her hand, he must answer three riddles or face execution. He answers correctly, then poses a riddle of his own, which becomes a test of love, life, and courage.
The opera will be broadcast live Oct. 26 on Classic KING-FM (98.1) beginning at 7:30 p.m. An informal discussion of the opera by Speight Jenkins and Perry Lorenzo will be held 7:30 p.m., Oct. 18, at the Elliott Bay Book Co. in Seattle. Admission is $5 at the door. Call 1-800-426-1619.
