SPI candidates to appear at forum
The League of Women Voters and the Northshore PTA Council are co-sponsoring a candidates' forum for the office of Superintendent of Public Instruction Oct. 21 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the Anderson Building, which is in the Secondary Alternative School, adjacent to the Ricketts Admistration Building, 18603 Bothell Way NE in Bothell.
The two candidates participating in the forum will be Terry Bergeson, former director of the Washington State Commission on Student Learning, and Dr. Ron Taber, author of Initiative 173, the voucher plan.
The Superintendent of Public Instruction is responsible for overseeing 296 public school districts with nearly one million students, a 1995-97 budget of $8.96 billion, and an agency with 258 emplyees that runs 125 programs.
