Playing one of the best games of their season, the Falcons beat Eastlake 1-0, scoring in the last three minutes of the game from a header by Vanessa Pierce off a corner kick from Amanda Lim. The Falcon defense Whitney Alstrand, Katy Collings, Vanessa Pierce and Tricia Gordon, only allowed three shots on goal the entire evening from the Wolves.
The WHS offense, Tracey Smith, Anna Lisa Skogen, Heather Heartstein, Sarah Shaw, Suzanne Culpepper, Amanda Lim, and Kinsey McCormick, pounded the Wolves goalie with 16 shots on goal. Falcon goalie Marie Potter added another shutout to her record.
This was the second year in a row that Woodinville has played against Eastlake for the Kingco Championship and Woodinville wanted this win. It showed throughout the entire evening as the Woodinville Falcons dominated the game, playing most of the game on the Wolves' half of the field.
The Kingco first team was named at the end of the game. Woodinville has five players honored: Tricia Gordon, Vanessa Pierce, Amanda Lim, Tracey Smith, and Heather Hartstein. Voted on by other schools, the Falcons had more first team players than any other school.
"Winning the title capped off a great season. Our chances look good in the state playoffs. The team is ready and excited to play," said Coach Sully Hester.
The State Playoffs start Tuesday, Nov. 12, 7:00, at Pop Keeney against Oak Harbor in single elimination play.
