Woodinville X-Country girls to State
Many firsts fell to the Woodinville girls cross country team on their road to the state meet Nov. 9 in Pasco.
First, the team became the first girls from the Northshore School District to a win a Kingco cross country title. Then they became the first Northshore girls team to win a district title (Sea-King), and then the first to qualify for a state meet.
Led by injured junior runner Krissi Mathers, who placed third over a 2.98-mile course, the Falcons beat out second place Newport, 63-67, for the district title and the right to go to state. Senior co-captain Becky Weinz finished fourth. Shannon Gingell finished 17th after losing a shoe at the starting line. Nikki Gerken and Alice Woolman came across 20th and 22nd, respectively.
In Pasco, at the Sun Willows Golf Course, a 3-mile run, Woodinville girls scored 293.
