Gas main project to go through Kingsgate/Hollywood Hill areas
Washington Natural Gas is scheduled to begin installing an underground natural gas main the week of Nov. 18 along a two-mile route between Kingsgate Plaza and 146th Place NE at 155th Avenue NE, requiring some traffic detours and occasional delays through most of December.
Work will take place at both ends of the construction route simultaneously to accelerate completion of the project.
"It's our objective to minimize any disruptions or inconvenience this project may have upon local residents or commuters," said Tom Ling, manager of the Washington Natural Gas project.
On the west end, as the construction work approaches 132nd Avenue NE, traffic will be reduced to one lane. On the east end, 146th Place NE will be closed between 148th Avenue NE and 155th Avenue NE from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Traffic approaching 146th Place NE will be redirected to the north and south.
Construction work will take place Mondays through Saturdays, mostly during daylight hours. There will be no construction activity or road closures during the Thanksgiving Holiday, Nov. 28 through Dec. 1. Construction on both the east and west ends is scheduled to be completed by the third week of December.
This project will be followed by another construction phase along NE 145th Street between State Route 202 and 148th Avenue NE, scheduled for late December or early January 1997.
The project will allow an upgrade of natural gas service to the Woodinville and Kirkland areas. Washington Natural Gas has notified residents and property owners along the affected area about the temporary traffic disruptions. Local school, police, and fire districts also have been notified.
