Pet food collection underway
Humane Society volunteers have placed specially-marked barrels in more than 85 businesses throughout King County to collect needed dog and cat food over the next four weeks.
The Humane Society is working in conjunction with QFC, Fred Meyer, and Safeway stores to ask the public for help in supporting the pet food bank program. Both dry and canned pet food are needed to help the more than1,000 needy pet owners living in the King County area.
The private animal welfare organization hopes to collect enough pet food to stock the shelves for at least two or three months. Volunteers will be monitoring the pet food barrels and bringing the donations back to The Humane Society's pet food bank storage area on a weekly basis. Donations can also be dropped off at The Humane Society, in Bellevue near the I-90 and I-405 Interchange.
The holiday pet food drive ends on Dec. 15. For more information, call 641-0080.
