Evergreen earns second national honor
The Family Maternity Center at Evergreen Hospital Medical Center in Kirkland has been honored with its second national recognition in the past two months.
In October, Evergreen became the first hospital in the United States to be designated a Baby-Friendly Hospital by UNICEF and the World Health Organization. The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative is a global program that recognizes hospitals which offer an optimal level of care for breastfeeding mothers and infants. Though nearly 8,000 Baby-Friendly Hospitals exist around the world, Evergreen is the first American hospital to meet the program's criteria.
Now, according to an article in Self Magazine, the Maternity Center is one of the country's top 10 places to have a baby. The article recognizes 10 U.S. hospitals that excel in the day-to-day business of delivering babies.
"Being selected as one of the best maternity centers in the country is an honor the entire region can be proud of," said Judy Roudebush, manager of Evergreen's Family Maternity Center. "There are many excellent maternity programs locally, and we were competing with some of the most innovative hospitals in the country. This recognition is well-deserved for the Family Maternity Center staff, and for all Evergreen Hospital staff who support us."
