Multi-Service Centers help with heat bills
With winter approaching, the Multi-Service Centers of North and East King County are gearing up to help low-income people heat their homes during the colder months ahead.
Beginning Dec. 30, the agency will begin scheduling appointments by phone for those who need help paying their winter heating bills. Phone lines will open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, except holidays. Interviews will begin Jan. 6.
Information gathered during the interview will determine an applicant's eligibility for the federally funded Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which the Multi-Service Centers have administered since 1979.
When coming for an interview, applicants over 18 must bring their Social Security number, documentation of income for the prior three months, a recent home-heating bill from their primary heat source, and documentation of their home address. Residents of subsidized housing must bring documentation of the heat allowance they receive from the King County Housing Authority.
Those needing assistance are advised to call early, as appointment times fill up quickly. The number to call is 869-6027.
