GM and college offer career training
General Motors and Shoreline Community College have joined forces to offer professional career training through the General Motors Professional Automotive sales and Service (GM PASS) certificate program.
An innovative way to provide GM dealerships with qualified and talented sales professionals, the program addresses critical dealership operation issues concerning the high turnover rate of sales professionals and offers a means of increasing diversity on the showroom floor.
Beginning Winter Quarter, which starts Jan. 6, the two-quarter program is comprised of a general business curriculum, including principles of marketing, communications, and human relations, and GM-specific coursework, such as GM Corporate Trends and Careers, Automotive Product Analysis, and Advanced Consultative Selling.
During the second quarter, students have the opportunity to gain hands-on, paid work experience at a local sponsoring GM dealership in various departments including sales, finance and insurance, parts, and service. Upon successful completion of the internship, students may be hired for full-time employment.
Students interested in participating in the certificate program are encouraged to contact David Starr, the GM PASS Coordinator at Shoreline Community College at (206) 546-4725, or call 1-800-99GMPASS for an information packet.
