Sunrise students plan bake sale to aid family

bake sale Sixth grade students at Sunrise Elementary are doing their best to help out the family of Katharine Gibson, one of their classmates.
Her father, Paul Gibson, was killed Dec. 31 when a tree struck his car while he was driving on Avondale Rd. Her 13-year-old brother Zachary, who was riding in the back seat of the car, suffered severe skull and facial injuries in the accident.
Katharine's class has planned a bake sale for Jan. 17 from 1 to 9 p.m. in the activities room at the school. All the proceeds will directly benefit the family.
"They are learning a valuable lesson about compassion and reaching out to those in need," Janice Alford, a class mother, said.
The students are inviting the public to visit their "Bake Shop" for cakes, pies, cookies, fudge, and other tasty treats. The public can also help with donations of baked goods to be sold at the event. Call 483-7272 or 881-6178 for information.
