Boys swimming
   Jan. 28: The WOODINVILLE boys swim team ripped through Redmond, 100-80, with sophomore standouts Ryan Freeman and Peter Jamieson leading the pack. Freeman won the 100 butterfly (56.79, new school record), the 100 backstroke (57.67), and a leg on the victorious 200 medley relay with Jamieson, Matt Smith, and Sam Chesneau (1:59.91). Jamieson also took first in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.64), and Aaron McCann finished tops in the 200 free (1:59.89). Senior Jeff Marth won the diving competition with 123.4 and is ranked third in Kingco.
   Jan. 30: BOTHELL topped WOODINVILLE, 101-82. Cougar wins were had by Sean Tripple (200 free, 1:58.72); Nico Zenger, with two state times (50 free, 22.67; 100 fly, 55.39); Tim Gately, Carlos Lugo, Dan Dale, and Zenger (200 relay, 1:54.17); Robin Dalton (100 free, 54.82); Dale (500 free, 5:22.91); Lugo (100 breast, 1:13.39); Dalton, Lugo, Brent Williams, Zenger (200 relay, 1:39.54); and Dale, Gately, James Duvall, and Tripple (400 relay, 3:51.38).
   Falcon finishers included senior Jeff Marth, who took the diving competition with 170.25; and sophomore standout Ryan Freeman, who now holds WHS records in the 200 IM, 100 butterfly, and 100 backstroke, took first in the 200 IM in 2:04.13. That time qualifies Freeman for the WIAA State High School Championships. Freeman also took first in the 100 backstroke (57.30).

Girls basketball
   Jan. 24: In spite of Beth Grove's 18 points and Deanna O'Hara's 12 for the Falcons, WOODINVILLE girls basketball lost to Redmond, 49-38. Other scorers included Megan Johnson (4), Tristen Johnson (2), Robynn Waterstrat (1), and Rachel Laitala (1).
   Jan. 25: Described as the game that everything came together, the WOODINVILLE girls basketball team won their first game of the season in a non-league matchup with Mariner, 47-43. Falcon scorers included O'Hara (15), Laitala (13), M. Johnson (7), T. Johnson (5), Waterstrat (4), and Grove (3).
   "It was a total team effort," said Coach Mike Giusti, noting that Robynn Waterstrat played an excellent defensive game and Amy Rogers and Heather Sutten also contributed in some key minutes on the court.
   "We're really, really happy with the first win," Giusti added. "We're really excited for the kids."
   Jan. 30: With 13 points, sophomore shooter Rachel Laitala led the WOODINVILLE girls basketball team, but after Newport scored 13 of 19 at the line to the Falcon's 11 of 25, Newport won, 51-35. Other Falcon scorers were Deanna O'Hara (6), Robynn Waterstrat (5), Beth Grove and Amy Rogers (four points each), and Megan Johnson (3).

Boys basketball
   Jan. 21: Cedar Park Christian boys basketball team fell to Lopez, 59-47. CP scorers included Ben Fuiten (23), Jason Hayes (10), Ryan Cox (9), Bryce Dovenbarger (3), and Justin Hayes (2).
   Jan. 24: Cedar Park Christian lost to Grace Academy, 63-54. Scoring leaders included Dovenbarger (15), and Jason Hayes and Ben Fuiten, scoring 14 each, including two 3-pointers. Other scorers included Jesse Faast (8), Ryan Cox and Justin Hayes with four points each, and Jason McManamon (2) and Jeremy Vallerand (2).
