Jan. 28: The Woodinville boys varsity basketball team traveled to Newport last Tuesday to face the Knights.
The Falcons swept to a quick 4-2 lead on a jump shot and lay-in by Marques Tuiasosopo. But Newport battled back to tie the game, 7-up at the end of the first period. In the second, the Knights rattled the Falcons, scoring nine unanswered points.
Defensively, Newport keyed on Woodinville's all-conference forward, Tuiasosopo, banging and pulling on him all night. The Falcons struggled to stay even but at the half, they were down 26-16.
During the second half, Woodinville made a run, coming as close as seven. In the loss, the Falcons committed 24 turnovers, Tuiasosopo fouled out, and Newport shot 5 of 10 from three-point range. Final score, Newport 45-31.
